Tetragrammatrance 1/21/05
I know it has been too long since my last journal entry. Blame it on brendastarr85, Neverwinter Nights, and a tooth in agony. Ive been in a great deal of pain the past few days and in my search for something to distract me from my dental suffering I opted to install Neverwinter Nights, which brendastarr85 brought with her when she moved in. After beating Punisher for the PS2 (which proved a lot more satisfying than Id expected it to be) I needed a new game to waste time with anyway.
If the truth must be told, and for me it must, there is actually a more significant reason that Ive not updated lately. On Saturday night wyspurr and I ventured out to the Spring4th Center for the first Tetragrammatrance event. Psytrance is really not generally my thing so I wasnt sure I wanted to go but wyspurr did and I figured it would make a good date for us. The night ended up being rather amazing, though, and thus Ive been a little daunted by the prospect of trying to put it into a nutshell.
When we arrived the first familiar person we ran into was JJ from Asheville. It was less than a minute after wed come in and Id stated that wed probably see at least one person we knew from Asheville. JJ was the only familiar Ashevillian that we ran into which was probably just as well. Theres not a whole lot of people left there we really miss. Then again it was really good to see JJ and it did remind me that there were a lot of great people in that town that were worth knowing.
I have to give Tetragrammatrance one thing. They put a lot more into the dcor than Ive noticed at Hexxt events. As I said, Im really not particularly into Psytrance but the atmosphere was most excellent. It says a lot for the SpringFourth Center as a venue that it doesnt impose anything upon the atmosphere of an event of its own except its coziness.
One of the highlights of the night was the hookah. I must confess that Id never smoked from a hookah before so it was a new experience for me. The thing had a little trouble staying in one piece, but when the hose wasnt falling out it was a very nice experience. It was as very smooth smoke and the way it became an anchor for socialization was great. It is now my heartfelt desire to own one in time for my next birthday party.
Another highlight was the fact that BigBlack81 made it out after he got off work. He was in a pretty bad mood when he got there but it didnt take too long for his spirits to gradually lift. It was good to finally get a chance to go out and get good and fucked up with BigBlack81 (he was rolling, I was drunk and tripping). We really dont get to spend much leisure time together and Im glad we got the opportunity to have a good time together as friends should.
The best thing about the evening, though, was that I actually kept true to my vow to socialize more aggressively at social events. I didnt just stick to the people I already knew. I got a bunch of email addresses, a CD from a DJ named Shane (which Im listening to as I write thisits reminding me of the club scene in Human Traffic, which isnt a bad thing), a couple of business cards, and so far one new LiveJournal friend (a sweet girl from Alabama called Harmony). Now that Ive offloaded the pictures I took (I hear there were people who thought I was a cop) Ill soon get around to email them to let them know where to find them. Not tonight, though, as Im in too much pain.
Anyway, that was my awesome Saturday night that lasted well into Sunday morning as BigBlack81, wyspurr, and I ended up at the Majestic. That was the perfect end to the night out as we talked about all we shared and experienced and flirted with the cute waitress who looked either really sleepy or really stoned.
