I've become obsessed with researching them.... Since I'm visiting Boston next month I was trying to find one that I could visit with no such luck... Most are torn down or rebuilt into something else. I've read a lot about Danvers State Hospital (est. 1874), which is rumored to be where they started the pre-frontal lobotamy. But in 2006 it was turned it into apartments. Can't we keep anything for history?? or does everything have to make someone money? I'm really disappointed and need to find an abandoned insane asylum somewhere in the US... even a hospital. I really want to visit one that was designed using the historic Kirkbride Plan. If you have no idea what I'm talking about and you get bored Google it... it's a good read... if you're like me. lol
If anyone knows of any abandoned insane asylums or hospitals in the United States let me know.
Does anyone else have this weird hobby?
Danvers before it was demolished for apartments....
