I've become obsessed with researching them.... Since I'm visiting Boston next month I was trying to find one that I could visit with no such luck... Most are torn down or rebuilt into something else. I've read a lot about Danvers State Hospital (est. 1874), which is rumored to be where they started the pre-frontal lobotamy. But in 2006 it was turned it into apartments....

That's a spooky looking building. We used to have an abandoned children's tuberculosis hospital in town that was built in the 50's and used for about 30 years. The building remained abandoned until 6 years ago and was always rumored to be haunted, so people would hop the fence and go exploring in there. I never went because I'm not a fan of breathing in asbestos. And following the theme of your words above....they bulldozed the hospital and built an apartment complex. Wherever there was once suffering, there must now be high priced rent and a pool!

Everything that seems to spark an interest in me ends up being demolished... It's so sad... I would love to go to a hospital or insane asylum and take photos.
