Heyho...
Journal typing I go.
Hope everyone is hale and hearty. I'm not so bad. Got the sniffles, like pretty much everyone I've been in contact with for the past two weeks. Pretty inevitable really. Dosing it up with some serious vitamin c (fruit style).. I sometimes wish I was as knowledgable as pihka when it comes to sourcing natural remedies to minor maladies. I'm sure it wouldnt stand a chance!
Speaking of old knowledge, I found an ANCIENT looking book in the chimmney space a few weeks ago. It's absolutely shot to ribbons and very manky but considering it was printed in 1844, it's survived pretty well. "The Dictionary of Daily Wants" is a handy 'reference' book to accompany the modern affectations of modern survival. It contains everything from how to store grouse carcasses to forging your own ice-skates. It's great with some superb "Heath-Robinson" style illustrations. Got no idea what a pristene copy would be worth but I doubt anyone would want this scruffy old pile, so I'M keeping it
Enjoying the freezing fog, everyone? I personally like this time of year. The fog burns away in the mornings and leaves clear days, the temps fall and fog shrouds the night. I like it. Can anyone tell I'm on a bit of a Dickensian kick at the mo? Of course I'm glossing over the horrors of forced slavery and disgusting working conditions for a more 'Hollywood' idealised version, but this bleak place hasn't changed much since then so why not sanitise it a little?
Got a few Christmas presents sorted over the past week. I'm doing a final push on Saturday, so I can relax with plenty of time to spare. It's a different picture to last year where I was penniless and virtually jobless, I'd scrabbled around for a few measly presents. This year's going to be a larger and more traditional affair. We've got a lot to be thankful for and we're damn well going to celebrate in some fashion! I'm sure there'll be a seat free for dinner if anyone fancies it.
I'd like to be able to regail you with such stories of my action packed existence such as THIS tale of debauchery, yet I weave a more routine and sedate path at the mo... To be honest, after the few months I've just had, it suits me fine.
