Okay. So I first posted this in the Rat group here, but it's a big part of my life so I'm reposting it in my journal.
At two a.m. this morning I went to take my two girls out of their cage. I knew there was something wrong when they didn't come running. I found Ksusha, who was only 1 1/2 laying still on the ground and Yahtzu, who is 2, burying her in bedding. My heart sunk.
This was totally unexpected. Just an hour before I had entered my room and they had popped their little heads out at me as they always do. Last week they got a clean bill of health from the vet, who told me that she wouldn't be surprised if they both made it to 3 or even 4 years.
The first thing I did was call my boyfriend who lives in RI. He loves both of them just as much as I do, and Ksusha was especially fond of climbing up his legs using his leg hairs (hehe). Then I went upstairs and told my parents. I called the vet because I didn't know what I should do next. She was just as shocked as I was and said to come in at 10 this morning, which I did.
by then it was around 4. I went outside my window and buried Ksusha in a cardboard box she had been working on and a paper towel roll (she always loved these). I went to bed but hada horrible time trying to sleep.
today the vet said Yahtzu looks healthy as always. We are unsure of what killed Ksusha but we know it must have been something fast, which makes me feel a little better. There were absolutely no signs that she was ill beforehand... Just to be on the safeside Yahtzu is getting an antibiotic (which we had to mail order so it wont' be here till tuesday) and has a checkup next monday.
It's still so weird. I never saw this coming....
