I told the border guard that I consider myself a Citizen of The Universe. He was not impressed.

So, I haven't updated in a while. I've been busy. Here's what's been going down:

I got a job. I love it, but I make virtually no money (which should be no surprise). My business card says that I'm an engineer at SoundScriptureStudios, but mainly I work at 305 South:

Today we rewired the PA, which may sound like a boring pain in the ass, but is way more interesting than, say, scraping all the paint off the outside of the building. Tomorrow those high school kids playing the will have four (!!!) monitor mixes, which is more than they deserve or even know what to do with. Clearly, we take pride in our work. It's nice to wake up every morning (not at the butt crack of dawn) and not dread/hate/despise what you're getting ready to do all day. It's nice to not watch the clock all afternoon, just waiting to go home. It's nice to say, "I'm going to work," and mean, "I'm going to go spend the next four hours messing around with EQs and rack unit routing, then eat a home-cooked lunch with a 7 year old wearing a leather jacket."

The only downside of living my dream is that I can't afford to do anything else. What am I going to get people for Christmas? I'm a little old for it to be okay to just make someone a card. I still have a month to figure something out, I guess, but I won't be any richer. I wish it would just be okay to tell everyone not to get me anything, because I'm not going to get them anything, and it's not because I don't love them or appreciate them, it's just that I can't afford it. But some people would still get me stuff, and I'd be an asshole and there'd be nothing I could do about it. Man... Christmas sucks.
