I'm so behind again ugh..
So the first even video game I actually owned was Pokemon Silver version on my trusty Game Boy Colour, and because of that Pokemon will always hold a special place in my heart.
I used to spend hours at a time training up my Pokemon, battling other trainers and eventually beating the Elite Four.
I remember my mum was always yelling at me to come eat dinner but I couldn't, I was in the middle of a gym battle.
One time she switched my Game Boy off and I lost hours of unsaved gameplay.
I was NOT a happy girl.
This version of Pokemon (+ Gold and Crystal) will always be one of my favourites, not only because nostalgia kicks in every time I see it, but because I love how you can go journeying through Johto AND Kanto.
Loved that.
Another of my childhood favourites was definitely Super Mario 64.
I loved this game so so much, I think it was the jumping into the pictures part that I loved most.
Seemed so whimsical to small me.
I never actually owned a Nintendo 64, but my best friend at the time did and every time I went to her house we'd play all night.
And just for the sake of lumping some together, I also LOVED Mario Kart 64.
But I mean who doesn't love that game?
So many fun hours of my childhood was spent brutally fighting for the honour of driving as Yoshi...
I have Mario Kart on Wii and on 3DS but they just don't have the same appeal as on the N64.
I had some friends over not to long ago and we just spent hours racing and having battles.
So much fun.
Probably one of the first games I ever played was Spyro on PS1.
I used to go to before/after school care when I was little because my mum worked full time, and after school I was usually the last one there, so eventually the staff let me go into a different room and let me play Spyro until mum came to pick me up.
That was cool.
Also this one is going to be so dorky...
I was a massive horse-nerd in primary school.
I still kind of am, I just learned how to suppress it so people don't think I'm weird.
And like any horse-nerd, I was OBSESSED with the Saddle Club.
But anyway, I remember my birthday rolling around and getting a gift from my Nanna, and I wasn't really excited cause Nanna gifts are usually kinda dorky.
BUT IT WAS THE BEST GIFT EVER.
The Saddle Club: Willowbrook Stables.
This game guys... this was every 9 year old horse lover's DREAM.
I was lucky enough to actually have a real horse but let me tell you right now, if I didn't I would have still been totally content just playing this game.
It was SO cool.
The basic plot is that you're visiting this stable on an island (you get to play as any of the Saddle Club girls) and they're basically broke, and will be shutting down.
So it's your job to journey all over the island to find these 4 golden horse shoes so you can save the stable.
It's so COOL.
I've been trying to find it online recently, that's how much I loved this game.
I want to play it again now.
Ugh.
I don't think you ever truly escape the horse phase...
And last, but not least!
I can't say I really "played" this, cause I was a bit of a wimp when I was little, but my sister had a Sega Saturn and a butt-load of racing games and... Tomb Raider!
I'm pretty sure I only used to do the training area, but I had so much fun playing around with it. Lara Croft was my idol for ages, I always used to get my mum to braid my hair for school like hers.
Such a badass!
But yeah!
They're some of my favourite games as a kid!
And still now..
Oh boy this post has been nostalgia overload, thanks @missy @lyxzen & @rambo for unearthing all of the feels.
xx
