So apparently George Lucas thinks that when you turn evil, your eyes change? Or does your Sith master make you get colored contacts? Oooooooh...scary Anakin! Geez, he's not just a pod racer anymore...he's Darth Vader! Pure evil...just look at his eyes!!! Hayden Christenson would be much more compelling if hmmm, I don't know, HE COULD ACT. I know Lucas' philosophy about the story being more important than the actor, but this is ridiculous. The story is contrived and weak so a piss-poor actor like Christenson is only going to be exposed more. You take away the special effects and the Epsidoes I-III are nothing. The stories of IV-VI still hold up today in their original form, without the meddling of Lucas. I know its his project but a true artist knows when his job is done.
Why would he want to balance it with poor actors? Why drag down your production with someone as hideously bad as Hayden?
Its not contrived because we know what happens...that would make it anticlimactic, which is clearly is not. Its contrived because Lucas is out of his element. He wrote some great science fiction movies and his sound & special effects work are the gold standard. He knows how to film so incredible action sequences. As far as his writing is concerned re: love story, human emotion? Absolute shit. The worst dialogue in the series had to have been the pointless romantic sidestory between Anakin & Padme in Ep 2.
The movies have become gimmicky and commercialized. The first movies were such a phenomenon that the next logical step was to then sell toys and other products relating to the movie. Now, the movie is being shoved down our throats at every turn...at the grocery store, on the web, at the gas station.
In spite of everything, I will see the movies and there will be parts that I will like (the aforementioned action scenes). I just think its sad what direction Lucas has taken this beloved franchise.
AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In closing, thank god for Peter Jackson & LOTR.
