I suck I haven't done a blog homework topic in months. Usually I just ramble about my life and post pictures of my butt. Anyways, @rambo @missy @lyxzen I'll be doing last week's topic.
List the most recent sexist/racist/classist/homophobic (discrimination of any kind) things that you have encountered:
Well, I'm in school to be a barber so this is basically my life. From here on, I will have to deal with (hopefully not too many) men questioning my ability to cut their hair or give them a shave because I am a woman. Questions and comments such as, "I was expecting a man" or "can you even fade?" which if you do hair, you know the later is a very annoying question (or maybe I'm just highly irritable). The environment alone causes men to question my sexuality (because of how I dress and I have very short hair), or hit on me in a very weird way... which I wouldn't do while I'm holding a straight razor. Kidding.
These things don't sit well with me but this is the career I want so these are things that will happen.
Also I live in Hollywood where I could walk outside in a trash bag and someone would still try to pick me up. These people are nuts.
Living here, I would say I experience or witness each one of those categories probably on a daily basis. I'm sure I get weird and disapproving looks daily but I honestly don't notice because I can't say I care all that much. It really effects some people though.
Every day I overhear people making comments about the homeless or mentally ill people left on the streets. I'm even guilty of it myself. I work and go to school in areas that are highly populated with homeless people. To you it probably sounds scary, but to me its sad. If you've ever seen the documentary "Lost Angels" on Netflix, you've got a little insight on what's going on.
Homophobia isn't so much the issue in this area, transphobia is, so I'm going to need people to become educated on the matter and stop sounding so stupid. I could use some more education on gender and sexuality myself.
People are people, you get to decide who you are and who you want to be. No one else.
So, let's get rid of that whole discrimination thing yeah?
