After reading the first section of Marcel Proust's Swann's Way, I was struck an inescapable urge to have new books. I made two huge orders from Amazon.com on the 13th and 17th, and I've been nervously anticipating the joyful exodus of brown packages from the mail truck since. Today was not that day, so I went to McClure's, keen to find some of the items on my bloated Amazon wishlist. My trip was successful, and I returned home with great boon with which to adorn my bookshelves!
Before that, though, I got into a conversation with one of the bookstore owners. Another customer mentioned to us that he buys 2-3 books per week, but rarely gets to read any of them. The owner shook his head said one of the saddest things I've ever heard. "That's just your youth talking. I used to be like that, but now I'm old, and I've realized I will never get to read most of them."
We all unfold in time and eventually will cease to exist. How terrifying.
