I tend to agree. Why have one or two days set side for buying your spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend or fiancee stuff to show you love them? And then if you can't afford anything you're made to feel guilty about it much of the time.
I figure, if you want to do something special for your mate on a lark more power to you. But why do something "special" only because some stupidly-marketed day of the year tries to obligate you into doing it? I think it cheapens the whole gesture.
