The thing I've spent so many years
trying to feed.
It's interesting. The last line is really the most difficult. When you can choose from "feed" "nourish" or even perhaps "cultivate" it's hard to know what tone is intended. I went with "feed" even though it was more raw and clearly less literal. I keep thinking "cultivate" works too but decided it was too much of a stretch.
