Driving home from work today, I was reminded of why this is one of my favorite times of year...
The clouds were mostly a smooth mottling of dark pewter grey, except along the very edges of the sky; there they were pale pink, dove grey, and blue. Around the sun they shone the most incredible color of pale smoky red, edged with brilliant gold.
The hills and mountains were almost pure black against the sky, but where the sun struck them they glowed bloody rose and their speckling of rocks became visible.
In the fields, old, yellow-brown, toast-colored grass bent over the newer, younger grass which was an almost electric green.Silver puddles flashed along the side of the road. The trees stood out green-black against everything, half bony branches, half thick, dark leaves.
All this I saw through sparkling raindrops on my windshield.
...It also reminds me of how depressed I'll be after this place is developed.

Besides, given the way my eyesight's going, I might not be able to see anything in a few years.
