I had always felt that I am usually "behind the times" when it comes to fashion, however I have discovered that I am often actually waaay ahead, and am apparently just predicting fashion trends many years ahead of time.
I think I first noticed this in my junior year of high school, when I was asked why I was wearing "Preppie clothes," in regards to a tie dye that I had made. Having been raised by hippies, I had been wearing tie dyes since I was an infant.
The following year, 1988, I had my mom make a short, strapless, dark purple prom dress, when everyone else that year was wearing long, puffy, princess pastels. Then, 6 years later, the malls were packed with short, strapless, dark jewel-toned prom dresses nearly identical to what I had had my mom make (pic of top of dress, the bottom was a double ruffled above-the-knee length):
About three years ago, a big fashion trend was China Flats (shoes, AKA cloth Mary Janes), which I have been wearing as foot decorations for most of my life. The trend though did give me an opportunity to expand my collection, since they can be hard to get at times.
My favorite dragon embroidered pair:
Most recently, I saw a fashion news show last week showing Paris Hilton and a couple other celebrities' newest fashion trend of wearing a necklace as a headband, which (as you can see in my profile pictures, and below) I was doing 5 years ago:
Maybe I'm just a lost time traveler or something.
