Cut to stock scenery of apocalypse
Pause, sigh
Right, we have something to talk about
We have real issues. just look out of the window
Cut to window
And we can have a laugh about it <Rick and Morty, Don't Look Up>
But maybe it isn't all that funny,
The horsemen of the apocalypse are coming: war, pestilence, famine, death
Name your favorite one of the week!
We got Word War 3 trending every other Friday.
<chernobyl dominos tweet>.
for christ sake
And it's no longer a question of which on, but which one first
and I have no idea how to act in that world
it creates tension, friction.
because this is real, we are living it.
So we have to start figuring this out
we have to talk about it
And you might say, down that path lies only madness.
Enough has been said already, by people much smarter, much prettier, there's no point in talking about it.
Nobody would listen! It's done already.
Pause <cut>
Right now I would concur.
It's cynical though, self deprecating perhaps.
It certainly isn't a very healthy way of living.
So, in the theater of misinformation, deep fakes, the 21st century mindset, we have to try to find a place.
The late night daydreams, the stuff of both nightmare and reality.
The things that exist in the cracks between the known and the unknown.
The ones that describe a world, we seem to have only just fumbled and stumbled our way into.
They are worth expressing.
Welcome to the Twilight Zone.
Between reality and performance art.
What does it even mean to contribute to a better society.
What do we owe each other, what is the good life.
Honestly, I wouldn't even know how to begin to form an answer to that.
But I do know ...
We just kinda have to,
and it might make for excellent television. It has in the past. I certainly would enjoy it.
It might be like this Dutch reality TV show "I'm leaving" (ik vertrek)
A show where the participants willingly leave behind their home to try their fortune and misfortune.
To start anew.
This will be like that.
A story of hope, of those willing to give it a shot.
The art of living a life together on this planet.
Pause.
But maybe this time there is nowhere to go.
This time there might be nowhere to land.
We're just kinda stuck between polar opposites.
To give some vague hint at the meaning of the name of this channel.
Cut.
A vibe check if you will, at the end of the world
And we can be cynical about it, to embrace the dark humor of it.
Appreciate the collective nihilistic apathy, the art of it.
That is certainly an aesthetic that I would appreciate, given the circumstances.
I like a flair for the melodramatic, the theatrical ... if you will.
The fragments caught between apathy, wonder, and despair.
The existential.
In the end this world is made up of narratives, stories, memes, the things that infect thought.
Stories from ancient history, and those of modern conflict.
We might all just be a little lost, confused, and lonely, from time to time.
Yeah, we're in for a bumpy ride <Bill Hicks>.
And it scares the shit out of me.
And I don't know the answer.
But I can't help but wonder if there is not more to all this.
Much ink has been spilled over this, philosophically, scientifically, humanistically and everything in between.
So I am not alone, there are those that have dedicated their lives to this.
And we need to hear their stories, now more than ever.
We need to find those, past, present, and future from all walks of life, that have this story to tell
To Reify Sonder, in this brave new world.
A desire to bear witness.
Because we are all students of modern history.
What is the right way to view this world?
Questions asked only at dusk, when the sun is starting to set.
We're all trapped in the belly of this horrible machine, and the machine is bleeding to death.
So lets talk books.
The books I've never read, the scientific papers I only skimmed.
Because I refuse to believe this is a "less is more"-situation.
This is a "more is better" situation.
Because we're running out of time.
Lets give the question of "what does it mean to be alive" another shot.
Because our civilization, our species, might not get many more shots at it, in the grand scheme of things.
Pause
So ... here we are, I would like to see it through till the end.
I really do.
Lets give learning another shot.
Lets push this boulder up the hill and enjoy it. At least for a while."
