looks like this is to be my home for the next 8 months.
eff me its hot over here and the flies are RUTHLESS. in some twisted way though, i am finding myself liking this place more and more. almost as if the substandard living conditions are a small price to pay for the chance at actually being able to do what Marines do. KILL? well, that too, but were trying to keep a good balance between death and destruction and hearts and minds. kind of like that saying, "no greater friend, no worse enemy." speaking of mans best friend, i made one today.
his name is koa. isnt he cute? theres something about having a dog out here in the middle of nowhere. almost like a taste of home, and i dont even have a dog back home. anyways, hes cool. i cut him in on dinner every night and then i take him on a walk around the base afterwards. its a good thing we got going on.
every sunday, i guess they have a bazaar outside the gates where all the hajis set up stands and sell various shit. so i set out today to find a fan, but all to no avail. i need an effing fan like its cool.
but yeah, while i was out there, some ANA (Afghanistan National Army) guys were out there and a few of them came up to me and were all like "cheska cheska" and one of them had their fingernails painted red. i gave them the raised eyebrow and went to the interpreter and asked him what "cheska" meant. appearantly, "cheska" means "very handsome man" in english. *shudder* these afghan guys are a little strange and im starting to think its not just a cultural thing anymore. mental note to keep my distance from the ANA in the future.
so after that i just went back and played with some toy i found, a'la happy gilmore style.
catchyas.
