When I lost my job last February, life seemed pretty grim. I was sick with the flu, in the middle of a move, and had just spent all of my savings on veterinary bills for my cat, who didn't make it. I was pissed, and pretty fearful to boot...I applied for unemployment, and to my surprise, it came through. It wasn't a lot of money, but with a little creativity, I made it work and started to enjoy life again.
Things I have done since losing my job.(List will expand indefinately)
Day 1, I unplugged my clock and smashed my watch. I meditated for 100 breaths and have continued to do so ever since. Lost track of days after that. Started painting. Writing short stories. Quit riding Muni and got a bike. Ride it every day. Learning to cook. Toured with the band. Go backpacking at least once a month. Read a book every other week or so. Go to sleep when I am tired and wake up when I'm not. Eat when I'm hungry. Study the I Ching. Do math problems for the fuck of it. Have a beer or two when the mood strikes. Have more when the mood really strikes. Smoke less cigarettes. Read the New York Times daily. Go to the free days at the art museums. Take naps.
Gonna take a nap now.
