150 years of precedents pave way for police brutality.
I like to read the news. I'm curious about the struggles of people across the world, the triumphs of humanity, the heartwarming stories, the bone chilling ones.
This article however, and others I have read of similar dispositions are really beginning to piss me off.
First and foremost, we ALL know that cops can be fuckheads. That's the fact, Jack. But without cops, society would be completely fucked up. Human beings are animals. Despite whatever state of mind you have, if tomorrow a state of anarchy erupted, most of us would kick on the survival instinct and do some things that we would never do in a normal day. Police are thrown into that realm (due to their own choice to be an officer) on a basis that would make most of us snap on a daily basis. They are forced to make split second decisions, sometimes while being shot at. That's right. Think about that for a second. Being SHOT AT. I've never been shot at. But if I had, I can be led to assume that I'd react in a pretty shitty way, especially if I had a gun.
Lets put this into a scenario we can relate to. You are a cashier at the local Wal-Mart. You're having a pretty good day. You got great sleep, you woke up early enough to get some nookie from your signifigant other before you went to work and you feel great. You begin your shift as any other day and a FUCKING BULLET goes whizzing past your ear and kills the girl in the salon. All that good shit goes away. It suddenly becomes a life and death situation, and you might be the one who dies. As you duck behind your register, you realize that someone changed their mind about an hour ago on their purchase of a handgun and box of rounds and the items have not been returned to the sporting goods section yet. What to you do? That's right you load that fucker up fast and shoot the piss out of the guy that shot at you and almost took the right side of your face off.
Now before you start to question my rationale, I'm aware that not every incident the police run into involves being shot at, and by no means am I claiming that the police should get a 007 license to kill. I have very little respect for cops who fuck with people over shit like having drugs or speeding tickets, things that really don't pertain to bettering the society at large. (If you're not hurting anyone but yourself, IT IS NOT A CRIME.) I'm just stating that when people view an officer's reactions in traumatic scenarios, they can sit at their computers, newspapers, or television and contemplate it with no fear of harm. The officer who pulled the trigger however did not have that luxury. It's an equasion of Fear + Possibilities = Action.
To deal with the fact that people cry about (mostly) criminals getting shot at, police have used tasers to settle things with less permenant injury to the opposing parties. I have no problem with this whatsoever. In fact, if I'm doing some ignorant shit I know I shouldn't be fucking doing PLEASE taser my ass to the ground. Why? CAUSE IT BEATS GETTING SHOT TO SHIT ANY DAY OF THE FUCKING WEEK.
Anyway, I have to head off to work now. I'll probably come back to this later and flush post out with more in a couple days. Until then, try to avoid doing shit that can get you shot.
Ok, back to the task at hand.
Race has been back in the news lately, fueled by Michael Richards outburst. I'm not here to talk about that incident, I'm just saying that it seems that was the catalyst for a bunch of fuckers to start playing the race card again. Now I'm not trying to come off like a cracker-ass honkey, but jesus man, let the past be the past. Bad shit happens to everybody. It's not always having to do with the color of your skin. Also, if you want to give me shit about "Well white people are the real racists cause they have the KKK and those Nazi guys." I got two words for you, Black Panthers. Racism can lie within ANY race. However, racism today is really just watered down bullshit held onto by the few ignorants who want to "boo hoo, poor me." How so? The white people who say that blacks are responsible for crime. The black people who claim that whites don't let them succeed. Etc, etc. IT'S ALL BULLSHIT! The racists of today hang on to these stereotypes due to a failure to take responsibility for the things that their race has done, as if it somehow will reflect back on them. All the things that happen, good or bad reflect on HUMANITY, not just a specific part of it. I think that today the people who "cry race" are really the ones perpetuating the cycle. If we just stopped claiming that every incident that happened between two people of a different color was "race related" the idea of rasicm would fade much faster.
