For the skeptic, there is one event in life that brings tremendous pleasure: the discovery of self-deception.
This week, I have become aware of a systematic distortion in my thinking, a tendency to neglect certain facts while latching onto others. This distortion has had tremendous practical consequences, and has shaped my actions in a negative way.
Now that I am aware of this distortion--I wouldn't say that I am free of it!--I can begin to act and hope that new possibilities emerge.
Of course, I will never be free of self-deception, but each discovery of it opens new possibilities.
Peace and Wisdom
