I think I "read" this site too often....
Yesterday, in perusing the local daily, I noted two occurrences of Suicide Girl related reporting. The first was front-page, an article about the return to school for a tenth-grader who survived a bat bite. She and her friend wore blue tee-shirts emblazoned with a Superman-styled logo, but labelled "sg" and not simply "s". It apparently stood for Supergirl, but I immediately thought -- Suicide Girl? Sure, the girl is sixteen, a devout Catholic going to Catholic high-school, and more athlete than pin-up (though some say you can be both... the Australian Women's Football side, anyone?), but, damn.
Then, I flipped to the entertainment section, and upon completing the crossword, read the feature on a local (Milw.) artist putting on a gallery show with 293 photographs, self-portraiture each, with each article of clothing she owns represented in at least one shot. The artist, probably all of twenty or twenty-one, but more proficient, much more proficient in her craft (photograpy) than I am in mine (short fiction and comedy writing, the second for lack of a better descriptive), was rather fine looking physically, moreso in an SG (Suicide Girl) way than anything. The polka-dot tube-dress, bird stand-off tattoo above her bust, aviator glasses, Billy Idol-styled sneer... Very nice.
But, is she a Suicide Girl type, or would she even deign to admit that the majority of what is presented here is art?
Probably not.
Still nice to look at though, and I want to hit her gallery show, to see all 293 photos (the feature only included eight, I think; maybe ten?).
