Hey all,
Happy Halloween! It's almost time. Been loving this Halloween/fall weather lately. I think the crunch of dead leaves under your feet may just be the best sound ever.
Been busy lately. Work of course. I've got two film festivals coming up at the theatre starting on Sat, so I'll basically be at work for 10-12 hours a day for the next two weeks. Many of the films are on other mediums besides 35mm which makes it easier, but there's still a bunch of prints that need to be made up and broken down each night. Plus, with the ancient system we have...and since all these movies from other countries come on cores and not reels, I have to hand crank half of them which takes forever (and makes me feel like I'm working in a projection booth in 1950.)
But it's been an okay month. Had a great time in Vegas.
I saw Salome in her one woman horror stage play, ANNA IN THE DARKNESS and she was amazing! I was so proud of her. Sustaining that level of terror for 45-50 minutes all by yourself with no relief...and practically having to light the set and yourself by yourself without showing it is no easy task and she was brilliant. I tell you I'm wsting her talent on my show! Have to write her a movie or something
But anyway, she's still got at least 1 performance left on 11/1 and maybe one before that....if you're in Chicagoland at all, check Salome's blog and get the dates, address, etc and do yourself a favor and check her out. It's a great Halloween play and like I said...she's amazing. (And while you're at it, give her horror-themed set some love too!)
Just finished editing our 2008 Halloween special. It's great this year that our Halloween episode actually gets to broadcast on Halloween night since it's Friday. I'm screening a 35mm print of the silent Lon Chaney PHANTOM OF THE OPERA at my theatre Halloween night, with Live piano/organ accompaniment which will be awesome. After that, I and a bunch of the cast are going to watch our Halloween special as it airs on the big theatre screen and maybe even record an audio commentary while we're at it.
So of course the episode is up on youtube. It always bums me a bit that the youtube version can't have the actual film we're hosting, and is missing cool little things like the old trailers we show, old Halloween commercials, etc...but it's the main part of the show. Here's the ep in 4 parts featuring the whole world of the weird monster show cast (including our own Salome and Gilli

PART THREE
And PART FOUR
Anyway, hope you all have a great Halloween!
