Quick lesson kids (and Kayne West) ...the AP...the Associated Press...is not the AFP...'Agence France-Presse.
Some things get lost in translation.
That being said, I'm tired already of people criticizing the president for the lack of federal relief effort in the areas ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.
Those who are fortunate enough to have television are only seeing New Orleans and parts of Mississippi and Alabama. We're forgetting about the places inland that have been
destroyed. Roads are flooded. Bridges are knocked out. Getting the aid the people in the southernmost areas is extremely difficult. Water needed to recede first. Duh.
You think it's easy for relief efforts to bypass places on their way to New Orleans?
One displaced man who was interviewed by my local station said it best:
"They're doing the best they can. There's a lot of people down here and a lot of work to be done. It's going to take time."
No one complained when we sent over $900 million to Tsunami victims. That was a one shot deal, people. Does any one know how much money the government is going to shell out to rebuild the area? Who is going to pay the overtime for police and rescue crews? Who is going to pay the National Guard? We all are!
This is a long term reconstruction effort.
And the people who want to make this a partisan political event just make me sick. Can we finish counting the bodies before we start throwing stones again?
