Okay, so because I was asked nicely to update my boring existence online in blog form, I shall do just that.
I'll start with the hockey stuff, because that's the more interesting stuff. Headed up to Lake Placid on the seventh around 9 a.m. and managed to make it there around 4 p.m. Took my time to get up to the Adirondacks. Stopped in Glens Falls, new home of the AHL's Phantoms and one of my favorite hockey towns.
So different to see it green and not under three feet of snow. There's a breakfast place off of I-87 that used to see my shadow every weekend during hockey season. No way I could pass through without having a meal.
There was quite the cute waitress that shared glances with me. From behind the counter I could hear her say something to another waitress about "the tall guy sitting by himself" and later as I walked out the one waitress told her "great there he walks out and you'll never see him again, you'll never know what might have been."
Of course I looped back a minute later to get a muffin for the road at which point one of the cute girl's coworkers gave me a card with a phone number on it. Good start to the week.
Placid itself was awesome. Didn't think I'd take to being up there as much as I did. The activity, the people, the beer. So much fun. Stayed at the Olympic Training Center where the U.S. bobsled, luge, skeleton, kayak and hockey teams were staying. It's amazing how in shape those people are.
The hockey was pretty cool. Worked team USA against team Russia on the same rink as the Miracle on Ice happened. In total I worked three USA/Russia games.
The rest of the time was spent just enjoying what Lake Placid had to offer: hiking, sightseeing, swimming, etc. I did a run on the bobsled course. Went to Cooperstown for the day. What a way to spend a week.
Thinking the best pregame ever is to sun myself and swim in Mirror Lake until an hour before the puck drops. Leaves me just a tiny bit relaxed.
Anyway, I never made it down to Glens Falls to hang out with the waitress. We talked and I found out her family owns the joint. She's way too hot for me.
There have been some other messes going on in my life. Fill you in on those later.
