I've been collecting random lines/words/lyrics over the last few weeks and just chucking them all into a word doc. to see what works and what doesn't. It's a totally new way of creating for me, but if it works for Oswald, Negativland and Steinski, then why not?
Ok, so they did it with actual music/splicing, but the principles are the same, so let's not get all pedantic about this, eh?
Blending of the early dawn
Birdsong is my morning call
The sun has won the early morning battle, and the moon has shrunk away,
Shadows start appearing now as night turns into day.
Distant lights and memories
All hung up, just waiting for a windy day
What they put you through is not the same as hell, to truly find that, you need to be me.
Half remembered dreams and memories of future pasts.
A carpet of broken glass and faded leaves
Tread carefully amongst the crowd
Ring the bell and it will stop, If it was anyones fault, it was mine.
Time melts away, those long forgotten shadows
Night-time deepens, bringing flatness of effect
Speeding sirens, racing stripes and steel wheels
Stolen glances, lead to an exchange of rough pleasure
Dead already, now gravity calls.
So, maybe some of it doesn't work or scan properly, but it's been fun compiling the lines.
I've been paying attention to billboards/posters/shop signs etc. on my morning walk into work, writing down words and phrases that catch my attention into my now indespensible notebook that I carry everywhere.
Now to write the actual music....
