I have accidentally stumbled into a few days of vacation. From about noon yesterday to tuesday morning I'm free... but I'm too broke to do anything with it.
The brokeness is my own fault. I went a-gamblin' last weekend and lost an embarassing amount of money. I swear the odds were in my favor! I was playing 3-card poker. In that game, 3 of a kind pays 30 to 1, and a straight flush pays 40 to 1. You can lose and lose and lose, but all you need is one big hand and they're throwing $400 at you. I figure if they're paying 40 to 1 on a straight flush, the odds of me getting one are more like 1 in 80. I've played far more than 80 hands of 3 card poker, and I have NEVER been dealt one of the big hands. And what's worse, when I play, everyone else at the table DOES get big hands. This past weekend, everyone who sat down won big at least once except for me. Last time I went, some lady got 6 big hands in the course of an hour as I was sitting next to her. She won thousands.
I think the whole problem is that I don't believe in luck. I honestly do not think that any force that might be called luck actually exists. If I believed in luck, my optimism might cause the cards to fall in my favor. But instead of watching the dealer throw my cards down and thinking, "I know this is the one, this has to be the one, I'm due, I'm due" I'm thinking, "well, mathematically speaking, no matter how many hands I've already lost, my odds of winning this one are exactly the same as they were of winning every other one." This makes the powers-that-be point and giggle, then take my $$.
So, unless someone gives me some money or has another Vegas bachelor party, I'm done with gambling. Done. From now on, every time my brother says "hey, let's hit Central City!" I'm going to say, "hell yeah!", take a couple of hundreds out and place them under my mattress, then not go. I will spend that money on something I need.
But anyway, it's a frustrating vacation. There are lots of places I'd like to go, but I suppose I'm just gonna hang out here. Maybe I'll get some things done. I've made hardly any music since I subscribed to SG... every time I sit down at my computer I end up here, somehow.
Time for coughee to go get some coffee.
