What a fucking surreal weekend. If there is a heaven on earth it is Asheville. Even the weather was perfect. We got into town early enough on the Thursday to walk to our favorite cafe and wonder around a bit before we headed to the Yo La Tengo show. I hadn't been to the Orange Peel yet and it was a great surprise, huge and open with a giant bar. A Yo La Tengo show is like a religious experience and I have neither the smarts nor the talent to put it into words so I leave it at that. We walked back to the hotel after the show, drunk on beer and music.
Friday we got up late and did nothing but sit in various places reading and drinking coffee, chai, beer (these things are readily available in this town). We went back to our room a few times that day to nap. After dark we smoked a joint and walked down to the pizza place, drinking more beer and eating so much I wasn't sure we'd make it back. On our way through, this hippie grabs my boyfriend and hugs him; he tells us Johnny Cash died and we all do shots of whiskey for the man in black, may he finally find some peace.
Saturday we had to be out of our room early so we went to Biltmore and drank a lot of wine. We were back in Charlotte before dark.
I've been sleeping all day today; this cold is still hanging on and after a short phone call to my mother I found out she's gone totally mad, there is no hope left. So I slept. Every so often some one comes to snuggle me, Jesup, Candide and for a while my boy. People have been calling but I'm not willing to get up and the boy has been studying.
I need a cup of coffee. But I guess it's kinda late for that, it's Sunday and everything's closed.
