I have come to the conclusion that home is where you are integrated into your native technology.
Whilst in Amsterdam I noticed that I felt isolated less by the language barrier than by not having a swipable travel card and so not being part of the transport infrastructure.
Here in London I have an Oyster Card and am therefore supported by the local technology. This transpires as a feeling of safety and acceptance. Further to that, My bank cards are registered and supported here; my post code simplifies my location; My mobile phone has full local functionality which will deteriorate when I leave that designated area and doubtless the authorities are able to identify me against my registered existence in this area.
Whether or not these are good things is irrelavant. They represent me as an individual and define me as a citizen in my 'home'. With friends and family spread across the globe there is no other way to define this as my home.
All hail the new technology.
