Ok, this is really going to seem out there, but does anyone have a good source for sheep guts? ![shocked](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/emoticons/shocked.4f86e9f2d588.gif)
In particular I'd like to find the sheep's "pluck" (heart, liver and lungs) and stomach.![tongue](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/emoticons/tongue.55c59c6cdad7.gif)
It goes like this. I'm trying to organize a Rabbie Burns Supper, and a crucial element of said supper is a haggis. For those who don't know, haggis is a traditional Scottish dish, made from the boiled and chopped sheep's pluck, grated suet (beef or sheep fat),steel-cut oats, onions and savory spices. Take that whole mess, place it in the sheeps stomach, tie it off and simmer it for 3 hours. Ok, I admit, it sounds
but for those of you in the Philadelphia area who've had Scrapple, it's very similar, and you know Scrapple is yummy in the tummy! Haggis is tradditionally served with tatties (mashed potatoes) and neeps (mashed turnips). Frankly it's the neeps that scare me! ![eeek](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/emoticons/eek.c88c4a705be2.gif)
Anyway, trying to find sheep pluck and stomach is proving to be way harder than it really should be. Part of that seems to be an obscure US law forbidding sale of lights (lungs) for human consumption. This stupid law dates back to the 30's apparently, and was put in place to stop the spread of TB -- which isn't spread that way anyway..... But as soon as you mention either lungs or stomach the meat processors want nothing to do with you. And of course Burns' night (Jan 25th) is right in the peak of lambing season 'round here, so nobody is bringing sheep to slaughter anyway. GRRR!!!!
So if any of you lovely people know where I might find the makings for a yummy haggis, please PLEASE PLEASE let me know!!![kiss](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/emoticons/kiss.fdbea70b77bb.gif)
UPDATE! I've found a place to get my sheep-bits!! If any of you are anywhere near Hillsboro, MO (south and west of St. Louis), give Dry Creek Ranch some business. They're being super great to me!!
In other news, I've been out playing my euphonium on the street corner like I do every year around this time -- playing Christmas carols and other holiday songs and raising money for the Salvation Army. I highly recommend it -- you get SOOOOO many smiles doing it. It makes me feel good for days! What else could you do for fun that makes people give you money and then THANK YOU FOR IT!![biggrin](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/emoticons/biggrin.b730b6165809.gif)
We've had lots of ice the last couple weeks, and this weekend we got about 5" of snow. Lots of folks around here lost power, but we went out and bought a generator ($600!) so of course we didn't need it
Anyway, today it was finally sunny but still cold, so I could get some pictures! ![smile](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/emoticons/smile.0d0a8d99a741.gif)
