Happy Turkey Day (gobble gobble)!
I'm just 3 hours away from a 5-day weekend!!! I'm looking forward to actually getting caught up on my picture editing and getting to do some shooting for ME! It's been a while. And I'm wanting to work on that commercial portfolio. (Any ideas, however crazy, are welcome!! ).
I found a lead on some studio space that should be coming available in about 6 months that looks ideal. It's a converted warehouse that's being divided up into artist's studios, including a gallery space and a cafe of some kind. Rent will be $1/sq. foot/month which is pretty typical here. It sounds like there's a good chance I can get a space that's appropriate to my needs, too, so I'm pretty excited about that. All I need to do now is put down $50 with an "intent to lease." And that $50 is refundable if I decide not to when the space becomes available. Now I have 6 months to drum up enough business to make a go of it. Need to at least cover the rent (which will probably be ~$2k/mo )!
Several new toys coming in... I'm upgrading my monitor calibrator so that it can calibrate the projector, too. That will be nice since the HP-Hg lamp tends to give everything a blue-green cast. AND I just got a printer calibrator from the same color, so I may finally be able to get prints that match my color expectations on the first try. It should pay for itself quickly in the proofs I'm not having to print and toss. I'm also getting a lensbaby 3G. It's a really bizzare looking lens that gives some awesome effects. It's a "selective focus" lens where you can move the focus point wherever you want in the picture my moving the front of the lens (it's on a bellows sort of thing). I can hardly wait! I'm also looking at building a 6' x 6' light panel which will be really nice for my studio work.
I think I could get pretty much all the toys I want for the paltry sum of $15-20k. Anyone want to contribute? (too bad there's not a "batting eyes" smiley!).
I'll end with a picture from a few weeks ago. Kind of an odd one in a few ways. This is pretty much un-photoshopped.
