Not sure if I'm being a dick or not, but...
My X wife's cousin needed some work done on his car last weekend and asked if I'd do it for him. I'm trying to get as much sidework as I can so I said sure. Agreed upon a price, and he would pay when he picked the car up. Told me he'd be here at a certain time to get the car so I waited. Needed the cash to go grocery shopping... and so I waited some more. Over an hour late so I called him up and said I had to leave, his keys would be under the floor mat of the car, and to leave the money in an envelope in the mailbox, or to put it in my truck somewhere. There was no problem until I got back home.
Car was gone (he had picked up), and no money anywhere. I called and asked what the deal was and he said he felt uncomfortable leaving it there. Now he is having an intermittent no start problem and brought the car back for more work. I'm an hour into diagnosing this thing when i wonder what the hell I'm doing. Lock the car up, bring the keys in and told him I'll tell him what's wrong with it, and he can have the keys back when i get paid for the first job. Now he's crying about it... but I really dont care. I was kinda counting on that money for a weeks worth of groceries and it never showed (he had a week to get it here and lives 10 minutes away). Ticks me off!
Now the car is locked in my garage until he pays up. Then I'll continue with problem number 2 so he can pay me upfront this time. Damn... after reading that, I do sound like an asshole.
On a lighter note... I finally got a chance to ride a motorcycle yesterday! I've wanted one as log as I could remember, but never got around to learning how to ride one. Guy at the end of my block has an old beat up sport bike he let me play with all day, and damn... that thing was fun. Gotta get me one of them things.
