Just getting more and more broke. . . This is a bummer. It used to be that a good job prevented this sort of thing from happening but that's no longer a guarantee these days. You work hard and you earn your pay and you spend more than you want just to eat and pay the bills - leaving you with next to nothing. . . It's getting to the point where I am thinking of selling things just to have a little extra cash just in case.
The economy now reminds of me of when I graduated from college and entered the workforce with $30k in student loans and the best job I could find paid $7 an hour. I'm still paying for those loans because of this. I think that Gen X has seen more global financial crises than the previous generations combined and it's sucking the life out of all of us. For the first time in US history, we're a generation that actually makes less money than our parents. We've seen paychecks go from $24k/year to $124k/year while houses have gone from $35k to $350k and cars from $5k to $35k in our lifetime - it hardly seems as though our pay equates to the costs of goods in our country any more.
The current recession has wiped out my personal savings, killed the value of my 401k and house and looks as though it may impact my ability to send my daughter to college in six years. I was willing to ride it out for a while but have finally become sick of it all. . .
