Weird night. Something woke me at 4:00 in the morning, an idea for a new novel, another "middle-grade" book, but sooooooooo different that the first one--something lighter, more rapid-fire and, well, fun. The idea was already so strangely fleshed out. I don't know if I'd had some dream that inspired it or what, but I put on the lamp and started hurriedly jotting notes; wrote for an hour or so. I didn't think I'd be able to get back to sleep after that, but finally did--and had a dream in which someone (I don't remember who now) told me that I was going to have to put aside the book I'm in the process of writing and quickly write this other book instead.

What the fuck's up with that?!

I can't say I put a lot of stock in "signs" or anything like that, but I can't seem to shake this.

There is a very good "stopping place" coming up in the book I'm currently working on and when I get there in a week or so... Well, I'll see how I feel, I guess. I have been feeling sort of burdened recently by the heaviness of the novel-in-progress. It's so bleak at times. Might be good for me to take a break and dive into something as goofy as DOTTIE NOTKIN IN 'A' IS FOR ANARCHY. (Title subject to change.)
