Well... You can go to Les Foufounes lectriques, which is on ste-catherine, near st-laurent. It is a punk-rock bar, with shows and shit. Sometimes there is cool people, but there is also like 14 yrs old poser girls (I was going there when I was 14 ), and people who don't know what Anarchy is with a anarchy t-shirt.
I love to go at Le Saphir, on st-laurent near ave. des pins, and Le Passeport, which is on st-denis near rachel. Saphir is diversified, there's almost everything. Passeport is more Gothic than everything else.
There is also Le Caf Chaos (which is far to be a "caf") on St-Denis near De Maisonneuve. It is a bar who promote a lot of local groups. It is also really diversified, there's 3 floors with 3 different ambiances.
The best is to look up on what events worth it. And after you check where it is. But if you only want to hang out and have a beer, I also recommend Le Roy Bar, on Roy street near Drolet (near st-denis). There is a good ambiance there.
