The first snowfall to Canadian kids is almost a religious experience. We got our first on Thursday night. As we slept the snow gods dumped 4 to 5 feet of the lovely stuff on us overnight. When we woke to see it it in the AM is was very exciting in our house. The boys are 2 and 3 so it is the first year that they can actually enjoy it all. Their noses were pressed up to the glass all morning amazed by it. The street was quiet , most peoplel stayed home to dig out. No traffic sounds. Just neighbours helping each other and grinnning over their shovels at each other gossiping. and the white..the clean, white fluff that made our street look like a holiday card.
I had to wait for help to get the kids outside (due to my ribs) and Nora came trudging through the snow like an angel to help me get the kids geared up and out the door. After a half an hour of tugging at clothes and sweating we were on our way.
The first few minutes they cried, after all it is hard to tramp around in snow that is taller than you are. soon they got it. It doesn't hurt when you fall. It doesn't taste bad. Murray (our black lab) actually will catch any snowball you through in his mouth! We discovered snow balls , snow fights, snow forts, icicles..and all the other wonderments of winter. I could barely keep them still long enough to wipe the snot from their smiling red cheeks before it froze.
We capped the day off with hot chocolate and it was a lovely day..
I thought I would share some pics with you ..one is of our house from the front, the driveway with Des trying to get back there to get his sleigh, and one of the boys with Nora herself..OH also the one in the back yard..that is our bbq and chairs on our deck beneath all that snow!
Enjoy.

We had our tiff of snow in Kansas that amounted to a whole seven inches... And what did we get? a whole highway stretching accross the state shut down with easy 2k people still on it. I've got a one year old that got to taste his first snowflake, I can't wait till he gets older and we can go play in the snow
