I came home today to find a letter in my mailbox saying I had gotten a tax refund from Norway to my Norwegian bank account. Happily I trodded off to the ATM to see how much money I had actually gotten. Brief was my joy when the ATM said "GLOMPH!" and ate my card right off, completely disregarding the effort I had put in finding both the card and my old PIN code in the household debris.
Fifteen seconds later I strode through the door to the bank office, loudly proclaiming that their machine ate my card and asking what was to be done about it. Having not eaten for almost twenty-four hours prior probably didn't make me less intimidating, or perhaps they were just tired trying to sit through the last hour after a long week. Either way they looked a bit cautious when telling me that it was too late, that if the card was eaten it was already blocked.
"Well, that was sad, considering that this was my entire food budget for next week", I told them with a blank stare and a smile that was a bit too wide to look healthy.
Perhaps my stare was a bit blanker than I thought, because ten minutes later I walked out of the office with $50 in "good will" for having lost my card.
There is hope for humanity after all.
Or perhaps it is just my soul that is lost.
Quote of the day:
"I like my soul like I like my coffee; sweet as sugar, black as sin."
