Getting ready for Vancouver.
I am about to do unspeakable things to a battery. In the world of fucked up weird projects I never thought I'd be working on, I'm about to use a soldering iron to repair a battery pack for my DV-cam. While on my adventures in the desert some months ago, the camera bag (with camera in it) was stepped on by my friend Sapphire. The camera survived, but the battery pack that was in connected at the time didn't do so well. As I was going through camera gear today and recharging my other battery pack, I took a closer look and I think I can get it working again. What's the worst that could happen? Besides some kind of explosion involving lithium, or ions, or lithium ions, or lithium and ions? Seems like a brilliant plan to me!
My neck is still irritating me. I caved shortly after writing my last journal entry, and have been using a heating pad and applying liberal amounts of icy hot. It's getting better, but not as quickly as I'd like. Side note - keep icy hot out of your eyes, kids. Once you slather that shit on, wash your hands because if you don't and then inadvertently wipe your eye a few minutes later, FUCKING HELL THAT WILL HURT! For serious. They should put a warning on the package - NOT TO BE TAKEN OPTICALLY.
Today I finally got the word on my group application. As some of you may know, I'd been interested in starting a group for Space Island, or for just art collectives in general. A place for artists, performers, enthusiasts, and creative types to network and share ideas and stuff. Unfortunately, after more than a month of waiting and following up and trying to check with people, it was rejected. Apparently, it's felt there wouldn't be much interest in such ideas or concepts. That's a real shame, aside from things I'm interested in doing personally, artists like Underworld (part of the Tomato collective) and Massive Attack (themselves a collective, with prolific current/former members like Tricky and Nellee Hooper) are doing some really cool and amazing stuff these days (Underworld is releasing new material in a trail-blazing format, and Massive Attack has been working with Portishead on something due to be released within the next 6 months). I'm bummed because, among other reasons, it's something I care about, and would have enjoyed putting in the time needed to make the group successful.
Today I passed the 18,000 comment mark. Holy fuck! And next week, I will have been on this site for three years. Time flies...
Okay. Back to getting ready for the trip. Yeah, I've traveled before - been to countless cities, most US states, and a handful of countries. but something about this trip is unique and new, at least for me. I'm afraid of saying too much or jinxing anything, so I'll just be all kinds of cryptic for now. But I feel absolutely euphoric, and I kinda like it.
