I feel like crap. About 5 days ago I got a pain in my hip from what I thought was a bug bite. The "bite" was swollen, red, painful to the touch. I let it be until finally the pain was so intense I was having trouble walking without limping from putting weight on my hip. Thankfully I have health insurance so I called the advice line asking them what I should do. They told me to go to the emergency room.
I spent about 20 minutes in the ER before they told me to go to the regular medical clinic. After waiting for an hour I am finally seen by a doctor who pokes and prods until I am in tears and then tells I have a secondary infection and I need to see a surgeon to see if I am going to have have it operated on to release the pressure and drain it.
Off to the surgeon I go, making a brief stop in the injection clinic to get a needle rammed into the other hip for antibiotics.
More poking and prodding in the infected area and then he sticks a needle, a very large 18 gauge 2 inch long (which by medical standards in huge but not for piercings I know) right into the infected area to drain part of it. OMFG, I have never experienced such pain! I have had a spinal tap and that was nothing compared to this. I felt as if I was raped by a hypodermic needle. Then.....
off to more tests. CAT scan, white blood cell count. Back to surgeon. Drugs. Antiobiotics. Come back in 2 days.
It has now been 2 days and I just got back from the doctor. The CAT scan showed no abcess but that it what they are guessing it is considering my white blood cell count in so high. But.....the bacteria in my body is fighting off all antibiotics. They are trying one last one and if this doesn't work they are going to have to administer medicine through and IV.
I am in soooo much pain, I am going through chills, fever, I have no appetite, I want this to end. I want no more needles, no more doctors, no more tests. I feel like a human guienea pig. They say they can do two options, continue to drain it with a needle for about 3 weeks or surgery. Ugh, this sucks.
Bring ice cream, STAT!!!!!!
