Last week I had a conversation with my friend discussing the oddness of my never seeing somebody go into a seizure in the job field I have been working in for 2 years (I work in a sobering station so we generally will get your transients that have been drinking incredibly amounts in for public intoxication).
This is actually quite strange because it is quite common for someone who has been drinking enough and a large enough amount to go into a seizure when they are detoxing.
I had to open my big fat mouth
I work the graveyard shift and about 20 min. after I arrived a cop shows up with one of our "regulars" in for public intoxication. I do the paperwork, ask him some questions, and give to cop the okay that she can take off and I can handle it from here. Five min. after she leaves the man comes out of the dorm where we keep everyone and states he feels like he is going to have a seizure, slowly lowers him self on the ground and immediatly starts convulsing
The sad thing is he has had enough seizures to be able to control the small ones from escalating into a large one sometimes and this is what he was doing now. He had 4 small seizures by the time the ambulance arrived.
One thing I pride myself on is my ability to handle situations of high stress calmly and this was one of them. I know quite a few people who would have freaked out because of this. I called my friend who I was talking about never seeing one and all he could do was laugh, so could I though (not at the gentlemens pain but in 2 years of not seeing one and a week after I express that, seeing one)
Ahhhh, I only had to deal with an hour of monday by the time I arrived at work but it stayed true to it's bad reputation.
