I've been taking a recording class and it has been really awesome! I've been learning a ton of stuff and getting a better handle on Pro Tools (industry standard recording software). Tomorrow, I have my first session! I'm recording a rockabilly/grunge type of band. It should be pretty rad and am looking forward to making a great product. Attached to this blog is a picture of my home studio.
I was with the guitarist/singer today and we stumbled on a sic amp at a local music store. It was in decent enough shape and the tone which is produced by this amp is phenomenal! We laid down some guitar scratch tracks (easier to jump in and record drums) because we have a limited amount of time we're working with to get through 4 songs; if you've ever recorded, produced, or sat in on a session, time really flies faster than Superman on a mountain of speed, 10 gallons of coffee, in fast forward. Not to mention it will be my first time recording in a full on studio with high quality mics and a Pro Tools HD (pro version) system; I know the musicians so getting along won't be that difficult - it's more the technical stuff which I'm a little nervous about.
I'm not sure if I've mentioned but typically, I am an insomniac so I've been getting back into bass. I'm hoping to start jamming with people again in a couple of months. I got this drum machine back from a friend and after a 2 year break from the bass, I'm getting back into it practicing pretty regularly to the drum machine. Surprisingly, I'm not as crappy as I thought but still am not in my prime like when I was living in LA and playing shows with a band about 5 years ago. I've been playing guitar so it's not like I completely stopped but haven't really played bass in a while.
When I have the demo made, I'll update and maybe post MP3s somewhere....
Until next time,
