So get this: my company sends me to San Diego to work on some equipment that I've never worked on before (let's refer to is as a PSG for the sake of clarity). Fine, they do that kind of thing all the time. There's supposed to be another guy working with me so he's probably supposed to be training me, right? I get to the building I'm supposed to be working in and I give the guy a call. He's still in Texas or something. He missed his flight, but he says that I can go ahead and get started without him. "Get started without you? I've never worked on this stuff before. I thought you were supposed to be training me?", I say to him, to which he responds, "Oh. Hrm. Why don't you call the service manager." So I call this service manager, who informs me that I was supposed to be testing some breakers attached to this PSG using some magical testing equipment that I neither have nor are (am?) trained to use. A few more hours of waiting around for the people that sent me out here to get their heads out of their asses and I found out that no one in my branch of the company has or even knows how to use this magical test equipment, and they tell me I should just go home. Awesome! One day paid vacation in San Diego with a brand new Cadillac rental to boot.
I went to an okay vegan place in Pacific Beach earlier this afternoon and to some record store in Encinitas that touted itself as the record store to visit in the San Diego area. Nice try San Diego, but I'll stick to Easy Street back home! I did pick up the new White Stripes album while I was there. Despite absolutely hating it when I first heard it a few months ago, I really like the title track. The rest of the album seems kind of meh. Like Jack got bored. I haven't listened to the last three or four songs yet, so maybe I'm in for a surprise?
Here's the video for the new song, by the way:

icky thump the album is good but loses steam fairly early on.
still, it's the white stripes: inherently enjoyable.
