Alright, here's the 40k stuff. I'm not completely finished with them; I forgot to flock the bases (meaning put the grassy looking stuff on) and I need to do some minor touching up. I would have finished that tonight but I have to get up at the butt crack of dawn to go to Duluth, Minnesota in the morning and I really wanted to get these pictures up before I leave. I only took pictures of the cool looking ones, there's some more rank-and-file types but I left them out. Here goes:
I think these guys are my favorite this time around. The guy with the sword just looks cool, and the other guy is pointing at you, which you might not be able to tell because of the light and the camera angle. I didn't really think through painting his sword orange, so I decided that don't really like it. I might redo it bright red or blue. You'll have to right click to see the whole thing because somehow this one didn't get resized and I don't feel like uploading it again.
These guys look tough. I should start putting black dots on the gun barrels or something. The gold one would probably look better had I remembered to paint the eagle on his chest white and gray like I did the previous guys.
These next two I did a while ago, but I felt like showing them off anyways.
I'm going to work on a Tyranid Carnifex next. I put him together forever ago but never got around to painting him because I had so many space marines to get done. It was a blast to put together because I did a lot of customizing. Here's what he looks like completely unprimed and everything:
I have a hive tyrant to assemble, which aesthetically resembles the Carnifex but less bulky and with wings. I want to get started on the Carnie so I can put the Hive Tyrant together. I think he's gonna be even more fun despite the fact that he's mostly pewter so I have to put him together and fill in the cracks between his parts with putty and file them down so he doesn't look shitty.
When I'm in the midst of painting I typically have 3 or 4 projects at different stages to break up the monotony of doing the same thing over and over. It keeps me interested. I kind of overwhelmed myself last time by buying a shitload of tanks, which I quickly found out are a pain in the ass to paint. I also need to pick out a new color scheme for the tyranids because I'm less than satisfied with what I came up with before. I hope you guys enjoy reading this stuff because I'm probably going to post more about it in the future, and it'll be cool just to have a chronological record of assembly and painting.
I really need to get to bed so I can catch my plane in the morning. I just keep rereading this journal and editing it to add more commentary. I think my favorite thing about painting minis is that it reminds me that I can occasionally apply myself to something and have it turn out to be pretty cool, and that's something that I'm really proud of.
I bet it's cold in Duluth. I've never been to Minnesota before, so I guess it's something to look forward to? It'll probably be hard to find vegan food there.
