Happy 3/11!!!
It's been a pretty cool weekend. I've given up on having a REAL Illinois Winter, so we made the most of the unseasonable 60'+ weather we've been having.
On Saturday, me Mum watched my daughter all day (rock on, Mum). I got the "Spring cleaning" done (it's technically still Winter, right?), and cleaned out/organized my work van. It needed to be done, having recently finished a year long project in Champaign IL.
When I picked the wee one up, it was edging four in the afternoon. Not wanting to waste the rest of the day, we grabbed Jimmy Johns and headed out to the Parklands Merwin Nature Preserve. It was fun soaking up the dusk and hiking/playing in the mud, and we saw a lot of nifty birds. The robins are back, and the bluebirds (not blue jays; they are bright blue without crests or masks) and woodpeckers were out en force. No fucking snowy owls, though. *sigh*
Friday night, I got out and saw a couple of local bands. The were of the fun punk rock persuasion, and I had a blast. The Drop Dead opened, and it was their debut performance. They did good, and a buddy of mine pointed out that they have a very Screeching Weasel kind of feel to them. Werepire Day was the headliner, and they brought their "A" game. Good times. The whole thing was a benefit for out local Roller Derby team, the McLean County Missfits, and a lot of the girls were out in "uniform". Or maybe they dress like that all the time...*happy thought* I'm old friends with several of them, so I had to snag my new Missfits calendar, and grabbed a Werepire Day T-shirt as well.
The Drop Dead:
Werepire Day:
Here they are a year and a half-ish ago at a different (now defunct) bar here in Bloomington:
Yeah...Coconut Louie's had HORRIBLE acoustics. *sigh*
The loot:
Today, we played outside all day with the neighbor's kids. It was nice, and the first time my girlfriend met them outside of children's birthday parties, etc. I had fun putting Kharma Dawn's Barbie Jeep away at dinnertime...
