I can't wait for tomorrow.
We might not know who's president by the end of the day, or when we wake up the next one, but at least I'll know I've done my part to change the problem we have now. In Ohio, we also have Issue 1 on the ballot, which has to do with gay marriage.
I really hadn't thought much about it today until I came home and found a bag of 4 Tootsie rolls on my doorknob. Then I read the paper inside. It started out "Bless the Family: Save the Nation" It went on about how love between a man and a woman is a gift from God.... blah blah blah...
But here's what gets me: On the back it has a "True Love Pledge". Number 4 says to "respect all families beyond race, nationality, or faith, and raise my children to do the same".
I stress the word ALL here.
Man, that really sticks out. I don't understand what these people are afraid of. I happen to be straight, but I've never felt threatened by any gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered people. Now that I think about it, 5 very good friends of mine here in Columbus are lesbians.
There was an email address on the paper. I zapped one over and feel pretty good about it. I've been wanting to say something for a while now. (Yes, I was nice but I made my opinion quite clear)
Maybe I'm confused, but man, I just don't get it.... Which of these 3 situations would I rather be in:
1) I'm in a lifelong, loving, committed relationship
2) I'm in an unhappy marriage but I keep it because it is what is expected of us. I'm not happy, she's not happy, our kids are confused and miserable.
I think I'd take option 1 out of those.
We'll see what happens. I'm excited and nervous at the same time.
