i thought this was a great quote from the book i just finished:
"...the reason you can't really imagine yourself being dead [is] that as soon as you say, "I'll be dead," you've said the word "I," and so you're still alive inside the sentence. And that's how people got the idea of the immortality of the soul - it was a consequence of grammar. And so was God, because as soon as there's a past tense, there has to be a past before the past, and you keep going back in time until you get to "I don't know," and that's what God is. It's what you don't know - the dark, the hidden, the underside of the visible, and all because we have grammar...so God is a brain mutation"
i've been doing a lot more reading lately. didn't pick up a book for fun for years after college (english major, read way too much stuff that took a lot of the fun out of it for me) but i've been getting back into it and taking full advantage of the good library system here in rutherford. if you have any book recommendations, let me know!
recently went to see mutemath at nokia theatre in times square with zoomusikgrl, awesome show, great opening band (nice surprise) and even better, I WON VIP TICKETS!! we did a little phone survey thing and i instantly won vip tickets so we got to hang out on the side mezzanine with a much better view of the stage, far less people to deal with, and our very own beer wench great night out!
i don't want to get too excited but there might be some big changes coming up. i don't want to jinx anything so i'll share details as they come...
