I went home from work early on Monday and stayed out all day Tuesday, it was awesome. I realized today that it was Sukkot on Monday and Tuesday, and I may not be Jewish, but I was having none of this work business. I stared out the window at the sky and meditated on the onrush of the age of Horus, inspired by a viewing of Eisenstein's "Alexander Nevsky."
From Chapter 3 of The Book Of The Law:
4. Choose ye an island!
5. Fortify it!
6. Dung it about with enginery of war!
7. I will give you a war-engine.
8. With it ye shall smite the peoples; and none shall stand before you.
9. Lurk! Withdraw! Upon them! this is the Law of the Battle of Conquest: thus shall my worship be about my secret house.
I'm seeing the thing with Frank as an opportunity to change the way I deal with people whose energy I don't like... my normal method is to shut them out and get away from them. I'm trying to see the unease that they make me feel as part of them and not me, and to not buy into it (despite being too empathetic for my own good.) At practice Frank was having tuning problems, and instead of tuning his bass for him I asked him if he'd ever used the harmonic tuning method of chiming the harmonic at the 5th fret, and comparing it with the harmonic at the 7th fret of the next string. At first he was unable to chime a harmonic! He kept pressing down too hard. Once he got it and lightly touched the string above the fret and sounded it he got a wide-eyed look and said "whooooaaaa..." like I had given him the formula for the golden mean or something, and I realized that in a way I had. So now I'm consciously trying to see the motivations behind people's behavior and communicate with that rather than the specific words they are saying. Frank's presenting me with all his chaos and I'm compelled to give him the formulae he needs to solve et coagula. Then I can bid him a "Do What Thou Wilt..." and he'll get on with it. People need to be told the Law daily!
