"I think computer viruses should count as life. I think it says something about human nature that the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive. We've created life in our own image."

personally, I've always been fascinated by the fact that viruses in the biological spectrum aren't really considered living organisms, or at least, not consistantly. And as much as I respect and read (and re-read to understand properly) Stephen Hawking's stuff, and as much as I like where the quote goes... that technicality kind of takes it apart... but if you overlook that, it's sort of depressing and beautiful at the same time, all nihilistic and almost orchestratic from a larger picture...
