I noticed something on CNN today...apparently, holiday terrorist "chattering" is increasing, suggesting a possible attack during the Christmas season... and it got me thinking...
Over the last 2 years, people are now groping for the bigger tragedy. Are you guys noticing this? I find it troubling.
The most recent example of this that I recall is during our wildfires out here. As I listened 97.1, an FM talk station, apparently a caller from the East Coast earlier in the day (during Stern's broadcast) called Southern Californians "pussies" because we were only dealing with wildfires and weren't suffering a spectacular terrorist attack that removed two buidlings from the NY skyline.
And out here, about 3-4 months ago when that old man plowed through the Farmer's Market, the evening news' first sound bite was of a woman saying that this was the "West Coast version of 9/11..."
Anyone care to explain this to me? I can understand the need to bond during troubled times and all that, but to lay claim to tragedies? One tragedy is bigger that another, neener-neener-neener? The fuck is that about?
I've always been one to just go...it sucked, that was a shitty thing that happened, we're pressing on. I don't fucking understand it...

The whole 9/11 thing... like most things, it seems, once the shock wears off, everyone uses it towards their advantage.
