Well, well, well... action packed week.
200 miles, an empty pack of cigarettes, and three bands later I roll up to my garage debating which one to enter. I went to see OK Go with Sarah and Meg at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor. Excellent show!
The first two bands, My Story and the Longwaves were definitely worth the listen. The first was very rough around the edges with a Radiohead-esque feel about them. I had a feeling a good portion of the audience didn't know what to make of them. I'll be interested to see how the progress.
The latter was quite a bit more brushed and had a cache of several up-tempo songs. I want to get a hold of the album, and digest a few more of their songs.
OK Go was pure energy. Damian was sweating like hell after only a couple of songs. Granted it was probably 1,000,000 degrees on stage, but still. Their encore was a dance number to C-C-C-Cinnamon Lips, the likes of which none of us had seen. Funny stuff.
Wednesday night was Howard's for a Twist of Nothing, Brian's band. It was their second to last performance. It was no secret that Brian is moving to California shortly, ergo the band's fate was sealed. The guitars and music performance was fairly good. I know he'd mentioned they'd practiced frequently, and you could tell. They were together, no question about it. The only major problem I saw was the lack of energy. I could definitely tell Brian did not want lead vocals, and since he was the lead, the whole band took to a whole subdued tone. Oh well, at least I've got a few things to give a hard time about on Monday. Two words: Usher impression.
This leads me to last Monday, when Phil came to town from Nashville. Phil's a great guy, and Sarah was definitely excited to see him again. We all (Phil, Sarah, Meg, and myself) went up to Sam B's for dinner. Also, Pat came down from Toledo and joined the group. Then we were off to Uptown/Downtown for 80's night, HOWEVER, it appears that they've changed their format on Monday nights. Much to my excitement, they changed it to 80's, 90's, and today's alternative music. Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy 80's music with the best of them, BUT this kicked ass! They were playing Primus, Filter, and all sorts of coolness from the grooveyard of forgotten favorites. Damn, I sound like a radio station, hehehe, but I definitely resolved to go up to UT/DT more often on Mondays.
Well, it's time to go. From a wooden chair in the depths of an agri-industrial wasteland, this is Nate, signing off.
