Finished reading The Historian. I think I like it, partly because it's written well enough to keep me going through the 'boring' bits (of which there arguably could be many) and I barely glazed over any of it. I don't think it would make a good movie, unless they made significant changes, which would likely ruin the whole thing; I like that too. I imagine The DaVinci Code is a little like this, but having never read or watched it I can hardly say for sure. In any case, the climax would certainly be anti-climactic if it ever made it to the screen.
I wonder if there are two types of books: the kind that is written in such a way to resist any potential transfer to movie status, and the kind that is practically begging for it. Perhaps this is how to define good and bad books, respectively.
Picked up some more books. Two are a collection of novels, one about Warmhammer 40,000 and the other about World of Warcraft. Incidentally, the whole Netherwing thing seems to be based off the first story in the book, set shortly after Warcraft 2 as far as I can tell. I don't have a problem with them taking the story and twisting it to fit the expansion, because the guy who wrote it seems to be a major figure in Blizzard's creative team. The metaphorical raised eyebrow remains nonetheless. I blame Joss Whedon for this, because the final season of Buffy was basically nicked from a Spike & Dru novel; I took umbrage at this because in the book, Spike hadn't been rewritten into such a total pussy.
Still think Spike should kill Buffy. You know, the time she fucking stays dead. My Buffy DVD collection ends with season 5.
Perhaps I'll go into town and see Harry Potter this afternoon. Or is Transformers out yet, over here? I think it might be.
