Hello seeing as the lovely Sinope asked Hows Things? I thought I should update my Journal.
Well last night was a blast The Mighty Boosh played Peterborough and I havent laughed so much in ages. Plus its good to see someone decent live in town. Last comedian was Mark Lamar over 5 years ago. And as for the music scene well saw Dogs Die in Hot Cars just as their single broke big and stupidly missed Kasabian before they broke big (with a friends band supporting too why do close friends have Birthdays which in hindsight clash with cool things?)
And then today had coffee with my Brother in town (plus his cool coffee shop mates), and did more record shopping, and found the latest Go Team 7 in HMV even though its been out for a few weeks and I check the 7 box every week for new stuff but got it now and will work into a mix soon.
Then worked on a mix for a mates party on Friday (which Im missing as its a close friends Birthday how typical) but the aim is for the party to be as debauched as possible and so hopefully my soundtrack for at least 3 hours of the evening will fit. Todays mix vinyl as ever (done specially for the party the other two mixes are from a previous party soundtracks) kicks off with Queens of the Stone Age (Unkle remix of No One Knows) before heading through various Led Zeppelin tracks cut up in a break beat style, then into CCSs Whole Lotta Love before Zeppelins kicks back in. Then into a menagerie of Psych Rock tracks from the 60s and 70s (Ms. Joplin, 13th Floor Elevators, West Coast Experimental Art band to name but 3, though should also give a shout out to the Beatles stunning Tomorrow Never Knows seeing as its almost like a Chemical Brothers track buts from the 60s) before hitting Dead Kennedys Too Drunk To Fuck (probably not true if the usual parties are anything to go by, too drunk but will try and fuck anyway is more like it). Then seeing as it makes me laugh its Fucking Hell its Fred Titmus by the illustrious Half Man Half Biscuit, before we hit more modern rock (Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine and Lard - yeah; more Jello). Then to end some ranting Christian moaning about Rock Music (c/o Pop Will Eat Itself) before an awesome, loud and noisy, outro by Extreme Noise Terror from their Peel Sessions E.P.
So not your usual mix tape of tepid Dance crap perfectly beat matched to impress other DJs, but its all mixed together (or cut up or whatever) and rocks. So there.
And then I went to look at a flat. One I may think about buying. I realised my rent has cost me around 25,000 over the last 5 years and I have nothing to show for it. So I should actually own something. And this place is 2 minutes walk from work, 2 minutes walk from the Sainsburys I usually use, its got two bedrooms (one would make an office/record room) and loads of storage space. No garden to kill off (Im not exactly green fingered) but it has a good sized garage.
So now to get someone to give me a mortgage
And apart from that Ive been mulling over my script, and have actually made a start on the main body of it. Okay Im on page 6, and therefore about 114 to go, but Im actually writing and thats a good thing. Plus one of the main characters will be described as being rather Suicide Girl-ish as thats how Ive imagined her for years and now I have a term I can use even if film company execs wont know what I mean.
And then back to work tomorrow for another 4 long days. I think Im promoting Jewellery this week. And working out how to do a CGI Willy Wonka Factory/Magical World style promotion too. Hey, I just used Hitchhikers Guide as an influence so why not keep with the movie style work?
But I have probably kept you for too long (if anyone is reading this), so take care and say Hello if you made it this far.
